Holder used as books: from rocks to Gutenberg
Abstract
This study is a historical and etymological analysis of the main transformations the book has undergone, from prehistory to its current format. The objective is to present a literature review on the different holders used as a book. For this, a brief consideration of language and linguistic signs begins, in the light of communication theories. Then, a reflection on the etymology of the word book is proposed in order to understand the object of this research in the broadest sense. Finally, the concept of holder is introduced as a means of communication and provides an overview of the different types of holders used as books from rocks to paper. The article ends with reflections on the contemporary importance of the transformations undergone by the book.
